A belated welcome to anyone who happened upon this site based on links from The Big Lead, Awful Announcing, Deadspin, HoopsHype or any other referring site I may have missed. Thanks for stopping by, but I have to warn you – the fare here doesn’t usually involve prominent ESPN personalities or porn stars. I’d hate to slowly disappoint you.
Instead, this site mixes an archive of this young(ish) newspaper veteran’s stories with new columns, features and links. It’s all meant to give me a better grasp on how to best write and present stories online, a skill that would be in high demand for newspaper employers if everyone wasn’t getting laid off already. And what do you get in the deal? My hope is to write in a way that combines the multimedia and immediacy of blog-based writing with the type of skill that sometimes is found in newspaper reporters. And, failing that, maybe offer some funny YouTube clips.
So, please bookmark the site and stay a while. The archives are chock full of things related to music, movies, Northern Illinois University, small-town politics coverage, book reviews and lots and lots of baseball. In a world of niche publications, I’m a bit all over the place – probably to my professional detriment but maybe to your benefit.
